Dr. Tryggvi Thor Herbertsson
Dr. Tryggvi Thor Herbertsson is the Head of Hydrogen Strategy and Partnership at the French IPP Qair International, Chairman of Qair Iceland and the Founder and Chairman of Taurus slf., a boutique Corporate and Investment Advisory. He is the Chairman of Vistafl and Quadran Iceland, a member of the Advisory Board of FinEquia, a Canadian listed crowdfunding platform, and is a member of the steering group for the Task Force for Carbon Pricing Europe.
Prior to this he was a Member of Parliament in Iceland for the Independence Party and a Professor of Economics at the University of Reykjavík and University of Iceland. As a member of parliament he served on the Committee for Economics and Taxation and the Committee of Industries.
Before becoming a MP he was the CEO of Askar Capital, a Nordic boutique investment bank. He served as the Special Economic Advisor to the Prime Minister of Iceland during the collapse of the Icelandic banking system in 2008. He was the Director of the Institute of Economic Studies and a Professor of Economics at the University of Iceland before joining Askar Capital. Dr. Herbertsson has been a member of and chaired many ministerial appointed committees.
Dr. Herbertsson has been on the Board of Directors and a consultant to many private companies, banks, and pension funds in Iceland and internationally. He has been a consultant to Fortune 500 companies as well as major international organizations, such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, the European Commission, the Nordic Council of Ministers, the OECD, and the World Economic Forum. He has been a consultant to the governments of Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, and Uganda.
Dr. Herbertsson has published over 50 scholarly papers and is the editor, author, and co-author of 13 books and monographs on various topics in economics. He has also written over 100 op-eds. in newspapers, both in Iceland and internationally, mostly on public policy and financial markets. Dr. Herbertsson holds a Ph.D. in Economics from University of Aarhus.
